Chipper Is My Homeboy

My Chipper Is My Homeboy shirt came in today and It. Looks. Awesome.

(Biceps alert)

Many thanks to Braves Diva. I love it!

One and Done

Seeing the Cards whip up on the Nats this week has really given me heartburn. In part because it isn't my beloved Braves doing the whipping, but mostly because a mockery is being made of my favorite sport. This one and done wildcard game is a joke and if Bud Selig can't see that then he's even worse at his job than I thought.

There's no justification for having clubs play 162 regular season games made up of three and four game-stands to arbitrarily have their postseason come down to a single wildcard game. It makes more sense to scrap the wildcard altogether and only allow the division winners into the playoffs, even though that would have made the Braves ineligible this year. At least teams will have earned their way into the postseason and you haven't bitch slapped the entire regular season in the process.

With all due respect to the Cardinals (not really), they weren't able to scratch together ninety wins in the regular season but were somehow good enough in one crapfest of a game to win the wildcard. *SCREAM* And now with the help of a completely inept Washington Nationals GM, they're laying pipe and are marching their way to the World Series...again. Lucky bastards.

I hope this ridiculous postseason has been a wake up call for Bud Selig. Expanding the playoffs to allow more teams in may have seemed like a great idea, but this one and done shit sandwich he cooked up in order to do it sure is hard to swallow.

Go Braves!

The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Weekend…Almost.

Well here it is, the Monday after one of the worst weekends for Georgia sports fans, or so I hear. The Braves lost the wildcard to the Cardinals, the Dawgs were beaten unmercifully by Steve Spurrier and the Falcons are…5-0 for the first time in franchise history?
I thought the Braves game was in the bag, honestly. Our guys own the Cardinals historically and with Meds on the mound I thought all we need is a run or two and this game is ours. Boy was I wrong. Errors like I haven’t seen since 2011 absolutely killed us. The outfield fly rule wasn’t the problem, the errors were the problem. We gift wrapped and hand delivered that game to the Cardinals. The Braves are arguably a better team but they couldn’t seal the deal.  Am I bitter? Yes.  Am I jumping ship? Bitch please.  I don’t give my heart to a team based on their record. I was born and raised a Braves fan and they are my team win or lose. Odds are my heart will get crushed again next year, but hey, at least I’m not a Phillies fan. So during this hot stove season I plan to do a lot of what I’ve done all year. Crying about how things won’t be the same without Chipper, bagging on Uggla for being a bigger flop than Derek Lowe ever dreamed of and swooning over my man Jason Heyward for being awesome.  Join me, won’t you?
I really don’t have much to say about the Dawgs’ loss to Spurrier Saturday night. I didn’t expect them to win but was prepared to be overjoyed if they did. I think what angered me most (and still does) was seeing some of the same old BS from some of the fans. I wish CMR would ban twitter for the players since the adults in the room don’t know how to behave. If you resort to calling these boys out on twitter to relieve your frustrations then I have to think you’re in need of psychological help (or a good ass whipping from that boy’s Daddy). And don’t get me started on the “Fire (insert coach name here)” people. If you’re requirement for being a happy college football fan is to win every single game, every single year then there’s a bus that runs to Tuscaloosa, AL in every town – Get On It. The most deplorable thing is what happened to Christian Robinson. That a person would vandalize a player’s property over a football game is reprehensible and there is no excuse for it period. My heart goes out to CRob. I’ve never met him, but he seems to be a good, decent, God fearing young man who loves his family and his team and I am proud to call him a hero.
But all hope was not lost fellow sportsfans. The Falcons came in and took care of business Sunday. All that hard work they were talking about during the preseason wasn’t hype, it was real. I can’t remember the last time the Falcons were solid in every aspect of the game, but this team certainly looks to be. Hell, even Matt Bryant is better than money in the bank. And Tony Gonzalez continues to blow me away. I’m not going to get ahead of myself and make any season predictions; I’m too smart for that. I’m just going to enjoy this ride for as long as it lasts. My God it feels so good to win!
